Instruction

Preparation

  1. Make the rich orange simple syrup: Add sugar and orange juice to a small pot and heat over medium-high heat. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to maintain a simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally until sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Remove the simple syrup from the heat, transfer to another container, and let cool completely before using in cocktails. This can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
  3. Prepare the martini: In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka, cooled espresso, and orange simple syrup. Dry shake vigorously for 30 seconds without ice.
  4. Add ice cubes to the shaker and shake vigorously again for another 30 seconds to chill and create foam.
  5. Double strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
  6. Garnish with chocolate shavings, fresh orange zest, and 3 coffee beans floated on top.

Notes

  • For best results, use freshly brewed espresso that has been allowed to cool to room temperature.
  • If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the sugar in the simple syrup by up to 50%.
  • Simple syrup can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For an extra smooth cocktail, double-strain through a fine-mesh strainer when pouring into the glass to prevent ice pieces from getting into the drink.
