- 4 Florida oranges
- 4 Florida grapefruit
- 200 g sugar
Peel grapefruit and oranges, then slice into 1/2-centimetre thick rounds. Arrange citrus slices, overlapping slightly, in a deep platter.In a skillet, cook sugar over medium heat for about 10 minutes, swirling sugar in skillet when it begins to melt. Continue cooking and swirling until sugar melts completely and becomes a deep amber colour. Remove skillet from heat and drizzle caramelized sugar over fruit.
Serve immediately for a crunchy candy-like topping, or cover and refrigerate until caramelized sugar hardens, about 2 hours, or until ready to serve.
As a variation, thinly slice some grapefruit peel and sprinkle over fruit before drizzling with caramelised sugar.
