BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. \u2013 Captain Citrus is getting a makeover. The Florida Department of Citrus\u00a0announced today a partnership with\u00a0Marvel\u00a0Custom Solutions<\/a>\u00a0to redesign the\u00a0superhero into an\u00a0ambassador of health and smart choices for\u00a0children\u00a0around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Through the\u00a0partnership with Marvel Worldwide, Inc., Captain Citrus will transform from a life-sized orange into a toned\u00a0superhero, fit to stand beside the likes of Captain America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The newly-imagined Captain Citrus will appear\u00a0with Marvel\u2019s popular Avengers Assemble characters in a series of custom comic books that will also help to convey the values of the Florida citrus industry and making smart choices about nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The partnership includes a print comic book distributed free to one\u00a0million children through schools across the country along with an educational teacher\u2019s guide. Two\u00a0additional digital chapters of the Captain Citrus story will follow. This fall, 2.5 million Captain Citrus inserts will be included with the release of the \u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier\u201d DVD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The partnership also includes an appearance by Captain Citrus at\u00a0New York\u00a0Comic Con in October, a chance for a child to be featured in\u00a0a future Avengers Assemble animated series\u00a0and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Created in 2011, the Captain Citrus program began as an effort to get the message of Orange Juice nutrition into the classroom. The recreated Captain Citrus allows the superhero to transform from a Florida-only asset to one that is useful globally.
